Public and Private Cloud Hosting in 2016

Public, Hybrid and Private Cloud

are the phrases people use to describe the

Cloud Computing Platform.

In big businesses the Private Cloud is within

the corporate firewall and the the

"Private Cloud" falls directly under

the IT Department of a business.

"Two weeks ago the Server dropped us and that resulted in a

Server Reboot. Last night the Server crashed and threw

SMART/IO Errors. The technical staff exploded."

This crash costs the company a fortune.

Time for ACTION ! ! !

The problem with our dedicated server is when it works everybody is happy, but when it is down, the business can close down, because there is no system to work on, and it always seems to happen at a critical time.

The Benefits are numerous for Public and Private cloud hosting, for instance:

The biggest advantage is that applications can execute all the time. Whenever there is a problem with one node in the cloud, all hosted servers get migrated without downtime.

  • The data is highly unlikely to get lost or corrupted. The cloud hosted servers using dedicated redundant storage servers for data storage.

  • Cloud hosting is very reliable

  • there is an "elastic band" effect, if you have more customers, it is easy to scale up, when you have lesser customers, you only scale down.

  • I can run my applications anywhere in the world, using any computer.

  • No, or very little technical knowledge is necessary.

  • The only disadvantage is the cost. Maybe if you enter Cloud Hosting carefully and cautiously, you will more than benefit in future, not to mention this chaos during and after downtime of the dedicated server.

"Decisions to Make"

I know that there are three Major Cloud Solutions and that if “The Cloud” is the answer, then I have to decide on a better model than our current model.

Private Cloud

Most organizations, including mine, have sensitive data. I will look into Private Cloud with a magnifying glass. All the sensitive data should remain in-house to monitor and control it.

The benefits of a private cloud solution include:

    • no network bandwidth restrictions, security vulnerabilities, and legal concerns that utilizing a public cloud might need.

    • It can also have advanced security, accountability, and resiliency than a public cloud because you can contain and manage usage.

Some disadvantages need a large capital investment, with time to market that can average 6-36 months to set up and the learning curve is a steep one.

Hybrid Cloud

  • Hybrid Cloud combines public and private cloud and is the greatest in cloud hosting.

  • Private Cloud setting keeps all the secured data.

  • This solution will cost mega bucks.

Public Cloud

Thousands of customers share public cloud solutions world-wide and anybody in the world can enter the data via internet.

    • I don't want to keep any sensitive information in Public Cloud where the world shares my private information.

    • Contrary to the belief that cloud servers never go down, they do go down when overloading occurs, network issues, data center power issues, and some more. So, I will have to keep that in mind cloud also can go down.

    • Overselling, like shared hosting is a major issue in the cloud hosting business.

"Finally, I decided to upgrade the dedicated server to 3 dedicated servers,

and slowly start to use Cloud Computing to check the benefits and costs,

then lastly to add the servers to Private Cloud Hosting."

There are other cloud computing services as well, but for this article we will keep to the three main cloud services mentioned above.

The other cloud computing services are: Community Cloud, Distributed Cloud, Inter Cloud and Multi Cloud.

Popular Cloud-hosting providers: GoogleAmazon CloudOracle Cloud, Rackspace and Microsoft Azure.
